A Message on World Cancer Day 2010
February 4, 2010
![]() Each
year on February 4, WHO promotes awareness of cancer to ease the global
burden of cancer, as WHO estimates that 84 million people will die of
cancer between 2005 and 2015 without intervention.
This year's theme is “Cancer can be prevented too”, by focusing on simple measures to prevent cancer such as: ♦ Stop tobacco use, avoid second-hand smoking ♦ Limit alcohol consumption ♦ Have a balanced diet and regular exercise to maintain healthy weight ♦ Protect against cancer-causing infections. The message is consistent with our mission to promote healthy lifestyle and reduce cancer risks, consequently cancer incidence. Of course, we cannot accomplish it alone, from individuals, organizations, to food industry and governments, together we can prevent cancer substantially. We welcome joint efforts! Today is an opportunity to reflect, and start living healthy again if you have postponed it. Make small, simple lifestyle changes daily to gain long-term health benefits including cancer prevention. Let’s also remember those who lost the battles to cancer, and offer support and care to those who are fighting cancer now! What are your thoughts on World Cancer Day 2010? What actions do you take for your daily lifestyle to minimize cancer risks? Photo credit: DieselDemon
