Top 5 Tips for Choosing a Nutritional Supplement
There are hundreds of multi-vitamins or nutritional supplements available on the market. With an overwhelming selection, we often find ourselves asking, "How do I know what I am taking is doing any good?"
Using the acronym PEACE, I have summarized the top 5 tips to help you know the facts and make an educated decision.
P stands for Pharmaceutical grade, which is essential. Different grades reflect different degrees of purity. Pharmaceutical grade ensures that you purchase the best quality.
E stands for Effects that can be measured. Just like taking medication to lower blood pressure and/or cholesterol that can actually be measured by health professionals, the effects of supplements can now be measured too. The ability to measure is the essence of science and medicine.
A stands for Absorption. Vitamins and nutrients need to be adequately absorbed to be effective. If the cells do not absorb the nutrients very well, not only are you wasting your money, but you are also increasing the possibility of malnutrition.
C stands for the Company behind the product. The manufacturer must be a rock solid and credible company. Preferably it provides scientifically proven and clinically validated products.
E stands for Expiration date. Pay special attention to nutritional supplements when they are on sale. Just like food, vitamins can become outdated. Vitamins and nutritional supplements begin to break down the day after they are manufactured. Once again, an honest and quality-driven manufacturer can ensure that their supplements perform at the listed strength on the label by the time of expiration.
The bottom line is... Don't judge a supplement on faith and don't buy it based on fancy ads, buzz or catchy words. Also, just because a supplement is cheap or on sale, doesn't mean you should buy it. "Low cost" often means "low quality". It's worth it to buy a top-performing nutritional product.
Again, remember PEACE when choosing a supplement:
Pharmaceutical grade
Effects that can be measured
Absorption that is maximized
Company that is creditable & behind the product
Expiration date
